CURRENT SERIES:

In the weeks leading to Easter I want to challenge you to re-think the one thing Jesus commanded us to observe as a continual religious activity, namely the Lord's Supper or what some call Communion. Perhaps that little plastic cup of juice and fracture of cracker isn't sufficient for striking up thoughts of the Cross in your mind (not to mention your heart) any longer. Maybe the service of communion has become all to common an item to us. Expect to see the bread and the cup in new ways the next few weeks. "Remember!" That is the order... perhaps there are some things about Christ crucified that you have forgotten. Yet isn't THAT the very thing that should be the motive for who we are and all we do as Christians? In this series we re-focus on some important aspects and applications of The Lord's Table.

Bruce Borron – Bruce was born-again at the young age of 9 at the First Baptist Church of Winigan, MO. It was through this church fellowship that he met and married his wife Sanita nearly 30 years ago. Both Bruce and Sanita received their BS from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO. They spent 2 ½ years in Boling, TX before moving to Jefferson, GA in 2000. Bruce and Sanita have two sons Zachary and Micah. Bruce sees the work of the Holy Spirit in changing us from the inside out as one of life’s greatest highlights.

Vic Pesaresi – The dashing (so he’s told) Vic Pesaresi attended church all of his life but was saved in 1988. He has since served in several administrative and ministry positions in the churches where he has been a member. Vic has served the public as a police officer for 25 years and is currently serving as CFO of Corner-Stone. Everyone who knows would agree that Vic is lucky to be married to Dianne (Dee) for 24 years. They have 3 sons Anthony, Nicky and Michael. Vic’s passion for the growth of the church is easy to see as is the joy of the Lord. Vic has a way of making people laugh and apparently has no problem laughing at himself either, as can be evidenced by his insistence to allow him to perform as a solo vocalist.

Darrel is the founding Pastor of Corner-Stone Church. He and Kimberly were married in 1998 and have 2 sons: Grady and Corbin.

Hobbies: Good movies, cooking, carpentry, but most of all couch-time with the family.
iPod recently played: Take Up Your Cross- Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Lay Down My Life - Darrell Evans, Lets Dance- by M.Ward, In Color- by Jamey Johnson, Obsession- by Jesus Culture, Lazy Afternoon- by Wynton Marsalis, Open Up the Sky- by Deluge. -Crazy Mix I Know!
Listening / Reading Sermons by: Chuck Swindoll, Thabiti M. Anyabwile, Tommy Nelson, John Piper, John MacArthur, Toni Evans, Matt Chandler, and Alistair Begg.

Darrel and Kimberly met at Cumberland College in KY where he received his BA in Religion and Biblical Languages. They married a year after graduating and entered Seminary at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX where Darrel received his Masters Degree in Christian Education. Kimberly attended Texas Christian University and received her Masters in Secondary Education. Darrel would say that his 1 year, post-graduate stints under Tommy Nelson (Denton Bible Church- TX) and Bob Roberts (Northwood Church- TX) helped shape his heart for ministry as much as his 2 actual degrees combined.

After spending almost 4 years on Staff at First Baptist Church Duluth in Atlanta, they decided it was time to begin a new work that we now call Corner-Stone.

Darrel's passion is to create a place where the Bible is "rightly divided" before the people, God is honored with genuine, heart-felt worship and the church is equipped and motivated to share the good news of grace.

Corner-Stone is growing and so are our ministry opportunities. In his first sermon of 2009 Pastor Darrel challenged our members to be creative in our dreaming and available to God's leading. Since then we have seen upgrades in our children's ministry, a new Men's Prayer breakfast, numerous Women's Ministry events, the first annual Valentine's Day Missions Dinner & Movie, and the upcoming FL vs. GA Halloween Fest on the Jefferson City High School Lawn.

Keep checking back because there alwayss seems to be something new for the Glory of God!

Have you been good enough to make it to heaven? - Take the Test

Would you consider yourself to be a good person? Do you think God would consider you to be a good person? If you are not certain that you are right with God and that you will spend eternity with Him, you can know for sure by asking yourself a few questions.

Answer these questions truthfully to find out what is true:

1. Have you ever lied?
2. Have you ever stolen anything irrespective of the objects value?
3. Have you ever used God’s name in vain?
4. Have you ever looked at another person with lust? (Jesus said that anyone who looks with lust is guilty of adultery – Matthew 5:27-28.)
5. Have you ever murdered anyone? (Jesus said that anyone who has hated another person is guilty of murder – Matthew 5:21-22.)

Would you be found guilty of breaking even one of these commandments on Judgement Day? If yes, the Bible says that because God is a God of justice He must punish you. Even a good earthly judge must punish criminals! He would not be good or just if He didn't.

God says that the just and reasonable punishment for breaking any of His laws is hell. But that is not what God wants for you (2 Peter 3:9).

God sent His only Son to receive the punishment all people rightly deserve. Through the cross, God’s wrath was poured out on Jesus, and God’s justice was satisfied. No other payment or good work is needed. Jesus paid it all! And after He had died and been buried he rose to life three days later defeating death!

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Please, repent (turn from your sin in sorrow and brokenness), ask God to forgive you and put your trust in Jesus for your salvation. For those who respond in faith to the invitation of God for the forgiveness of sins, the Bible says, receive eternal life. You may want to use the following prayer as a simple guide to express what you know to be true.

God, I admit that I am a sinner. And I know that I do not deserve your forgiveness. But I also believe that because of Your great love You do forgive me based on the crucifixion and death of Your Son Jesus. I believe He was killed on a cross as penalty and payment for my sin and proved that He was God by coming back to life 3 days later. Because of what Jesus did for me I know that I will live forever with You. From this day forward I will seek to turn from my sin and commit my whole life to You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit so that I can live a life pleasing to You.

God will now begin to produce in you new attitudes and behaviors that are pleasing to Him. Here’s what you should do now:

BE BAPTIZED and then...
◦Begin reading your Bible every day (start small).
◦Begin praying to God on a daily basis.
◦Become part of a Bible believing church.

All three of these exercises foster intimacy with God. And God genuinely wants us to know Him more, for knowledge of God changes us from the inside out. But it’s not just “head” knowledge we’re talking about here. In fact, knowing about God and knowing God are vastly different things (read James 2:19).

For example, someone might know all sorts of things about Michael Jordan or some other famous person. Their height, weight, accomplishments, even their likes and dislikes, but unless they’ve actually spent quality time with that person they would be lying to say that they “knew” that person. And so it is with God, He wants us to spend quality time with Him so that we might “know” Him.

Reading and studying the Bible, daily talking with God and fellowshipping with other believers are the three main ways we can come to “know” God better and better. Don’t put it off another day.

"I’m excited about our Kid’s Corner. Lots of good people with great big hearts have spent countless hours planning for our children’s area. From the moment you step in the door, we want you to be informed and excited about the ministry your children receive!

At this time, Corner-Stone has made a conscience decision to only provide the services and ministries that we feel can be offered at a high level of consistency and excellence. Therefore, our Kid’s Corner is currently only available to children 10 and under. Children and Youth over 10 are invited to serve as supervised Kid’s Corner Helpers or join us in Worship.

As the Corner-Stone family grows, so will our children and youth ministries.
This Kid’s Corner may not be as expansive or elaborate as you imagined, but stick around...we have BIG plans! Until then, we hope you recognize the level of thought and intentionality put into, what has turned out to be, a wonderful foundation."

It is important that you are aware of the precautions we have taken. As parents, worry comes naturally but we hope to ease some of your concerns while your children are in our care.

- All of our Children’s Workers have submitted to a back-ground check.
- We have a strict 2 adult per room policy.
- Outer hall doors in the Kid's Corner are locked to the outside. Everyone must enter the Kid’s Corner through the check-in area.
- All children’s toys and equipment have been carefully chosen and placed for age -appropriateness.
- A First-Aid kit is always available.
- A 3-Part Check-In Card is used for all our guests. All 3 pieces have matching 4 digit numbers that will be used to connect child with parent.
- If ever your child needs you, your 4 digit number will be displayed on the electronic board in Worship.
- No matter how well we get to know you...a parent must ALWAYS have their matching pick-up ticket in order to check out their child.

A Brief History - About Corner-Stone

In the fall of 1998 our lead pastor Darrel Rewis moved to Fort Worth, TX to attend seminary with his wife Kimberly. It was there that they met our worship pastor Preston Philpott and his wife Robin. Darrel graduated in the fall of 2000 and took a position at a church in northeast Atlanta. After 4 years on staff Darrel felt the Lord’s prompting to plant a new church. He and his wife Kimberly subsequently moved back to Texas to attend a church planting program as well as a biblical discipleship program.

After a year of study and finishing both programs Darrel and Kimberly moved back to the northeast Atlanta area to start Corner-Stone Baptist Church in 2005. They initially began a Bible study in their Jefferson home and then shortly thereafter moved into the cafeteria of West Jackson Intermediate School in Hoschton, GA meeting every other Sunday evening.

During these beginning phases Preston and Robin were praying about joining Corner-Stone and eventually made the move to Jefferson in early 2006 – just in time for Corner-Stone’s first official morning worship service on March 5th in the cafeteria. Corner-Stone continued worshiping there for more than a year and a half.

In the process of looking for property and a building to call home the Director of the Mulberry Baptist Association, Jim Maston, suggested something unusual. Romans Road Baptist Church was an existing Jefferson church with property and a building but with no lead pastor. Jim suggested a partnership between our two churches. After much prayer and consideration members of Corner-Stone and Romans Road separately voted, both with near unanimity, to partner in ministry.

In November of 2007 Corner-Stone made the move into their new and permanent location. A few months later Romans Road Baptist Church dissolved but only as a corporation. Some of its core members are now members of Corner-Stone’s family and integral to our growth and progress.

To Make & Mature Disciples who Follow, Feed and Free.

1. FOLLOW the Lord
Our first commitment is to Following the Lord. Following Him starts in two places: at His feet and in His word. Therefore, our First Priority is gathering in the presence of our Savior. In His presence and at His feet we seek to Love and Learn of Him. Our time in Worship and in the Word will be the foundation on which our lives are built.

                                            2. FEED the Sheep
Next to the Lord, the Body of Christ is our greatest ministry. Feeding the Sheep means caring for and equipping other believers as well as ourselves. Therefore, our second priority will be the fellowship of the believers.

                                            3. FREE the World
The Lord has left His people with a clear task. The world needs a Church that has the keys to Free the soul. Therefore, sharing the Good News with a world in need is both the believer's responsibility and honor.

Everything we do as a Church will, in some way and to some degree, seek to foster these 3 actions in the life of the members. A Church is able to accomplish many things, but there are some things that we must accomplish. Success as a Church will be measured according to how well we are accomplishing our Purpose. In other words, are we Making & Maturing Disciples who Follow, Feed, and Free?

F.A.Q.S about being part of the Corner-Stone Family - F.A.Q.'s

When did Corner-Stone Services Begin?
On July 10th 2005 we began meeting on Sunday evenings at 5pm in the home of our Lead Pastor. On August 7th we moved Sunday nights to West Jackson Intermediate School. Sunday morning Services officially began March 5th 2006 at West Jackson Intermediate School.

Why Membership? Family Commitment.
Membership means Commitment- a Commitment on the part of the Church to care for, equip, and support Members of the Family. It is a Commitment on the part of the Member to being a creative, active, and viable part of this local Body of Christ for the Glory of the Father. God has designed us to be in meaningful relationships. As members of one Body we join together in our Journey with Christ and become accountable to each other. As a Staff and Church family we make a Commitment to our Brothers and Sisters and expect that in return they make the same Commitment to us. We are a Family and each New Year we will all have an opportunity to evaluate and confirm our Commitment to each other.

Are Numbers Important? No and Yes.
Numbers for the sake of numbers are not important to us. Our goal is not to gather as many people as we possibly can. We hold quality over quantity when it comes to Making Disciples. Therefore, the number of growing Disciples we have is very much important to us. We hope to make lots of Disciples!

What is expected of a "Family Member?" To Fight the Good Fight.
We expect members to be Disciples who are simply struggling well in their Journey with the Lord. We expect them to be creative, active, and viable parts of the Body of Christ and the major Component parts of our Church. We expect members to Commit to Following the Lord, Feeding the Sheep and Freeing the World.

What / Who is the priority on Sunday Morning? God.
Our First Priority is always God and The Gathering is our time together at God's feet. In The Gathering, our #1 goal is to sit at His feet in Worship as a Family of Faith. He is our focus. As an added bonus and general rule of how God works, as we Worship at His feet we are changed! We find strength, encouragement, hope, conviction, forgiveness and instruction at His feet. God shapes us as we Worship Him.

What Style of Worship does Corner-Stone utilize? Genuine.
You may have been hoping that the answer was either 'Traditional,' 'Contemporary,' or 'Blended' but the truth is we can't put a finger on it except to say that we desire that it simply be God centered and Genuine. God gives us great freedom as to how we should Worship and we hope that The Gathering allows for God to freely prompt you. We trust that you will know how to react when you encounter the Lord. When it comes to music in Worship, lets just say that you won't get bored!

What are Life-Groups and Why are they Necessary? It is the Best Way.
Life-Groups are small fellowships of people that have something in common. They will meet weekly or bi-weekly at the Church or in homes. Each Life-Group will choose when and where it meets. Some groups will meet at the regular "Sunday School" time and others will meet throughout the week. They exist because we cannot effectively or efficiently 'Make and Mature Disciples' in a large group setting like The Gathering. To train folks to Follow, Feed, and Free we must necessarily breakdown the large group into smaller, more intimate fellowships. In our large group we can set the course and cast the vision but we cannot develop the individual Disciple to his/her full potential. In addition, we cannot do a good job of tracking the Disciples we make unless we organize them in smaller groups. Tracking Disciples is important to be assured that they are connected, cared for and held accountable. Every member is expected to invest in a Life-Group. Here you will develop more intimate spiritual relationships.

What will Ministry Teams be? A Group of Servants.
God calls us to serve each other as a Family and in order to provide a variety of services we have set-up Ministry Teams. Ministry Teams make things happen. A Church needs servants in order to accomplish its Purpose. Every member is expected to find a natural place of service that matches his or her passion, personality, and giftedness. Each Ministry Team will be led by the servants in the Bible know as Deacons.

Do Children have something special on Sunday Mornings? You Bet!
Our goal is to spoil the kids. Our children can't get enough love and attention so we are making them a top priority. Although our Church is in the infancy stage itself, it has taken the responsibility for training and protecting our children very seriously.

Are you ever going to talk about Money? Yup.
The Bible deals with every area of human need or concern and money is no small issue. Our world is money driven and we must live with that as Believers. If we don't talk to you about money then we have done you an injustice! God speaks clearly on the subject and so will we.

What about MY Money? Lets make a Deal.
If your money is yours, you keep it- if God says that it is His, then we will be glad to put it to good use! If you don't trust that we will handle your money well or use it to do God's work then feel free to give it to another Church or Ministry. Simply put, we trust God for our resource- it is up to Him to keep us in business! Our purpose is to Make and Mature Disciples who Follow the Lord #1. We believe that if you are Following Him, then He will be able to mold your heart and even direct your finances. Our Family Members commit to doing what He says- even with their Money.

What kind of Time-Commitment are we Talking About? Great Question.
Lets be clear. Members are asked to make a Commitment and Time IS involved. We hope that the Church becomes a central part of your family's life but we DON'T want it to overwhelm your life. Simply put, we don't want you spending all your time and efforts at the Church building- we need you in the world building relationships and making an impact. We could easily fill your evenings and weekends with programs, practices, and projects but we would rather watch you come up with creative ways of Freeing the World in your sphere of influence.

What Can I Do? Be Yourself.
We need YOU- we need you to be the person that God has created. As a 'Body' of Believers we need ALL the parts. 'DO' what God has gifted you to do- not sure what that is- we can help. Use all your personality, passions, hobbies, talents, etc to be the best Disciple you can be with God's help and the support of the Church. Be Creative! We cannot and will not do it all for you- if you have a great idea or recommendation, be ready to help make it happen. Ask God to show you your options and then Glorify Him with whatever you 'DO!'

Who are the Ministers? Look in the Mirror.
Smile- you are it. The men or women that God has put on the 'Staff' of this Church are not the PRIMARY Ministers- YOU ARE. No matter what you do to pay the bills, as a Disciple, God calls you to be a Minister. The Pastors and Staff are here to help make you a success as a Disciple. WE will hand you the tools- so that YOU can build the Kingdom! Don't worry we will help.

Who is in Charge? God.
That is always easier said than done with humans but we organize and strive to that end. The Pastors of the Church are to be Biblically qualified and trusted as leaders of God's people. A Group of men called Elders will serve as guardrails for the Church and its leadership. An "Advisory Team" made up of participants from our partnering Churches and Organizations will serve as overseers in the early stages of Corner-Stone.

The Vision for Corner-Stone - Vision

We envision a Church that sets clear priorities and high standards. A place where authentic Worship and Bible exposition come together. A place that calls believers to a life of abandonment for the sake of Christ and his glory. A Church that is the natural center and foundation of the believer's family.
A place where grace, forgiveness, compassion, and above all love abound. A place where believers find rest, encouragement and challenge for a new day. A Church that is the people and not the building or organization. Where the lost see the Lord lifted high and his hand of mercy reaching low.

We envision a Church that Follows hard after the Lord, takes serious its role in Feeding the Sheep, and as an overflow steps up to its responsibility of Freeing the World with the Good News of Christ.

As students tell their friends about church, get involved in our ministry, begin to mature in their relationship with Christ, and finally encourage their peers to become involved in church, they will be living a life that closely models the example of Jesus Christ.
